About the event

Dry Hollow: Maps & Destination Info

Home to barrens habitat and unique features including a massive sand pit, vernal pools, and remnants of iron mining, Dry Hollow is now managed by Rothrock State Forest for public use after being conserved through a partnership between ClearWater Conservancy and PA DCNR. While here, walk or bike along a mix of wide gravel roads and foot paths through young forest and diverse terrain, throughout the 1,271-acre property.

Outings will be led by our Centred Outdoors guides with assistance and information provided by Jim Julian, Ecological Program Specialist for DCNR’s Bureau of Forestry who works in the Resource Inventory and Monitoring Section. Jim helped lead the effort to map and inventory the vernal pools that occur throughout Dry Hollow, and he has worked in vernal pool ecosystems for over twenty years.

Parking Information: Continue past public parking areas, through the open gate, and to the camp building about .6 mi from the gate.

Difficulty: Moderate (Terrain is easy, but trails are slightly overgrown in spots. Some parts of trail are narrow or through higher grass.)

Hike Distance (miles): .75 (Outing Trail Map)
