About This Destination The Stone Mountain Hawk Watch is a world-famous site for spotting migratory raptors as they soar along our ridges. The platform was assembled by the State College Bird Club and Juniata Valley Audubon Society and often has volunteers present from September through December to count the migrating birds. Guests can stop by the platform for a commanding view of the surrounding valleys or continue in either direction along the Standing Stone Trail. Grab a sturdy walking stick, which will help on your climb and during your descent. About This Destination The Ray Decker Trail begins at the Decker proporty on Route 192, and climbs the mountain to the James Cleveland Memorial, where you can continue on James Cleveland Trail to Greens Valley Road. Connect with the past via a short yet steep hike up to the monument in honor of James Cleveland, an airmail pilot who passed away in May 1931 in a plane crash on Mount Nittany between Centre Hall and Pleasant Gap. Follow the trail to reach the top where an inscribed pillar and wreckage from the tragic accident memorialize this prominent piece of Centre County history.
