I am a Centre County native who is passionate about all of the joys that can be found in wild spaces. I have long loved our beautiful local forests and wild areas, and enjoy spending my free time hiking, mountain biking, and meandering. I studied art at Parsons School of Design and received a BFA in Illustration, though after college my interests pivoted towards small-scale agriculture and I worked at a few vegetable farms throughout New England. The pandemic brought me back to my beloved Centre County, where I am currently a bar manager at Big Spring Spirits. I am excited to be a part of this program because I am passionate about protecting the beauty of our natural resources and inspiring others to find ways to relate to nature and value the ecosystems around us. I look forward creating programs that help people in our community connect to their local natural habitats through art, movement, and fellowship. When not in the woods, I can be found at home gardening, drawing, and tinkering on my motorcycle. Idanre, Ondo State, Nigeria Mary Tutuola Akingbasote Mary Akingbasote hails from Idanre, in Ondo State, Nigeria. She is currently a dual title master's degree student in Agricultural and Biological Engineering and International Agriculture and Development at Penn State. That experience led her to explore how agricultural waste can be turned into something valuable like biogas, and a passion for sustainable agriculture and energy. Outside the lab, Mary works with Penn State Extension to help create educational programs for professionals in agriculture. She has been recognized with the Evan Family Extension Achievement Award. She is the secretary of the Graduate Student Council in Agricultural and Biological Engineering (2024-2025), a proud member of Graduate Women in Engineering and the Pan-African Professional Alliance at Penn State. In the future, she hopes to continue her work in renewable energy, helping farmers like her father find sustainable and practical solutions. Mary believes that true leadership happens outdoors, where real change is made, on farms, in communities, and in the field. Bellefonte, PA Fernanda Lodeiro Fernanda Lodeiro has a background in Biochemistry and while trying to answer the questions ‘How do we heal? How do we thrive?’, she explored the paths of nutrition, coaching, nervous system regulation and energy healing. All these paths invariably led to the resounding answer “reconnecting with Nature”. Recently Fernanda has dived in early childhood play based education, Nature Education and the healing power of time in Nature. In her free time Fernanda enjoys walks in the woods, playing by a creek with her family and nature journaling. Fernanda is excited to be joining the Outdoor Leadership Cohort to grow as a leader in the Outdoors and Stewardship movement. 2024 Cohort Meet our 2024 Outdoor Leadership Cohort!
