About the event
Led by: Jennifer Tucker & Briel Beaty
Join us for a guided walk focused on the medicinal plants and trees that thrive in our local habitats. As we explore the landscape together, we’ll learn to identify a variety of species and uncover the medicinal traditions and folklore woven into their histories. Each stop along the way offers a chance to understand how these plants have been used for generations and what they have to teach us today. This gentle, immersive outing invites you to slow down, observe, and deepen your relationship with the natural world.
About Our Presenters:
Jennifer Anne Tucker earned a BFA and MFA in photography from Penn State and met her herbal mentors, Evelyn Snook, Bill Russell and Keith Wilson in the early 1970’s. To this day Jennifer works at the intersection of diverse practices in herbalism, photography, teaching, consulting, yoga, shamanism, ethnobotany, and writing. She is the author of Evelyn’s Way: Cleansing and Nourishing with Plants (jennifer-tucker.com), a workbook of herbal remedies and practices devoted to the teachings of Evelyn Snook. Jennifer is co-founder of the annual Hawthorn Botanical Gathering at Rhoneymeade, PA.
Briel Beaty is a Traditional Western Herbalist, Reiki and Yoga instructor offering classes in the State College, PA area. Briel grew up embedded in the PA woods and dabbled in herbalism throughout her life until she began her formal herbal studies. She started her formal herbal studies with Susan Hess in 2014 with a year-long Homestead Herbalism Certificate course. Following that she moved on to study at the The Northeast School of Botanical Medicine with herbalist/botanist 7Song, taking his 400-hour Community Herbalism Intensive. After the course, she went on to apprentice with him through 2017.
