About the event
Hike info/map: TBA
The Grays Woods Preserve sits within the Scotia Barrens Biological Diversity Area, a rare pitch pine–scrub oak habitat known for its sandy soils, unique wetlands, and the uncommon plant and animal species it supports. Surrounded on most sides by State Game Lands, this landscape has long been recognized as a conservation priority. Patton Township acquired the land after voters approved a referendum to preserve local open space, with additional support from the Hamer Foundation. In partnership with ClearWater Conservancy, the Township finalized a conservation easement in 2022, ensuring the preserve remains protected and publicly accessible for generations to come.
We will be joined by Suzy Yetter, staff Ecologist for ClearWater Conservancy. Suzy provides technical expertise in developing and implementing conservation strategies through ClearWater’s land and water resources programs and works with landowners, volunteers, local organizations, and other partners to protect and restore healthy ecosystems.
