outing difficulty levels

Centred Outdoors guided outings are listed as Easy, Moderate, or Difficult. Hike distance does not necessarily indicate whether an outing is difficult — a .5 mile hike up a mountainside is more difficult than a .5 mile walk in a park!

 

The following guide should help you decide whether an outing is suited to your own abilities or comfort level. If you have questions regarding a specific trail or event, please contact us!

Easy

  • Trail or path may be paved, gravel, dirt, or grass.

  • Very little elevation change.

  • Suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

  • Some trail sections may be ADA accessible; check the destination details.

Recommended Gear

  • Sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

  • Full water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray.

moderate

  • Trail or path may be dirt or grass.

  • Rocks, tree roots, or similar obstacles may exist. 

  • Some elevation change. 

Recommended Gear

  • Sturdy hiking shoes or boots recommended.

  • Water-resistant footwear may be desired in wet areas.

  • Trekking poles will assist with balance over obstacles.

  • Full water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray.

  • Trail or path is rocky and/or steep.

  • Trail may include large boulders or other obstacles.

  • May include significant elevation change or distance.

  • Day packs suggested for carrying water and snacks.

  • Trekking poles will assist over obstacles and with steep climbs or descents.

  • Full water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray.
