About This Destination
Guests can utilize any of the park’s multiple trails to adventure along one of the coolest spots in Pennsylvania. The Star Mill Trail near the south of the lake loops up through the woods along the end of Moshannon Lake. Winding through multiple smaller ecosystems guests can explore a lake-shore habitat, hemlock grove, a civilian conservation corps plantation, and several boggy areas. Those more inclined to physical exertion can test their mettle in Black Moshannon by climbing to the highest point in the state park. The fitness hikers will take a more vigorous hike up the Ski Slope Trail and bask in views from the old ski slope.

Take the boardwalk to explore a wetland dominated by sphagnum moss and leatherleaf and accented by sedges, rushes, carnivorous plants, and lilies. Observe waterfowl and other wildlife along the trail. Wayside panels tell the surprising story of bogs and other park wetlands. Access for people with disabilities is at Boating Area 3. To make the trail a loop, walk Westside Road back to the trailhead.
